Mezzo-soprano Beth Wallace made her operatic debut in 2006 as Berta in The Barber of Seville with Skagit Opera.  She portrayed the Mother in Whatcom Symphony Orchestra’s 2009 production of Humperdinck’s beloved opera Hansel and Gretel.  She has portrayed the Mother in Giancarlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors for Skagit Opera and Starry Night Orchestra.  Musical theatre roles include Maria (The Sound of Music), Anna (The King and I), Jewel (Best Little Whorehouse in Texas), Fairy Godmother (Cinderella) and the Charwoman (A Christmas Carol).  Among Ms. Wallace’s leading dramatic roles are Lady Macbeth, Hedda Gabler, Vivien Baring (Wit), Mistress Page (Merry Wives of Windsor), and Margaret (Artichoke).  Other favorite principal roles include Queen Margaret (Richard III), Meg (Crimes of the Heart), and Georgeanne (Five Women Wearing the Same Dress).  Ms. Wallace performed solo in the Obie-award-winning play The Fever by Wallace Shawn and starred in the independent film In the Garden Growing, which won Best Narrative Short and Grand Prize at the 2004 NW Projections Film Festival. 

Ms. Wallace will portray Anna Leonowens in Lyric Light Opera’s upcoming production of The King and I, which opens at Kirkland Performance Center on May 15, 2010 and at McIntyre Hall on June 19, 2010.  She will also be appearing March 6, 2010 at Maple Hall in La Conner as the vocalist for the community big band Skagit Swings. 

Ms. Wallace has performed as a soloist with the Bellingham Chamber Chorale, Skagit Symphony, Starry Night Orchestra, Bayshore Symphonic Ensemble, Anacortes Concert Singers, and the Bob Sanders Quartet.  She is a past member of the Bellingham Chamber Chorale, the Bellingham Festival of Music Chorus, and Schola Antiquae Vocis. 

Ms. Wallace studies voice with Erich Parce.  She teaches yoga in Skagit County and lives with her husband on the family potato farm in Bow.
